Spectacle Pond of Littleton and Ayer

Welcome

Spectacle Pond, so named because its shape resembles a pair of eye glasses, offers a tranquil respite from the hustle and bustle of daily living. Whether boating, floating, paddling, fishing, swimming, ice skating, snow shoeing, or simply having a seat to take in the sights, we welcome residents and friends to enjoy what Mother Nature has gifted us.

About Spectacle Pond

Spectacle Pond is approximately 78.0 acres, with an average depth of approximately 11 feet and a maximum depth of approximately 30 feet. The pond is fed by Bennett’s Brook as well as another unnamed brook which feed into the southwestern, wetland area of Spectacle Pond. Spectacle Pond outlets at the eastern wetland area (near the public boat ramp) of the pond and feeds into Forge Pond via Gilson Brook.

Reflections on Spectacle Pond
by George Kinder, resident poet

George Kinder, 30 year resident of Spectacle Pond, inspired by its beauty, and by Henry David Thoreau's Walden, took on a 30 year project to capture an essence of Spectacle Pond for each calendar day of the year in poetry and photography. George’s works can be appreciated in a five volume series, Reflections on Spectacle Pond: Weekly; and Reflections on Spectacle Pond: Daily: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.
